Demolition City Roller Derby

Who Are We?

The fastest growing competitive sport in the world exploded onto Evansville’s athletic scene in 2007 with Demolition City Roller Derby: the first all-female flat track roller derby league to strap on skates in the Tri-State!

Our commitment to fiercely competitive athletic excellence and community wellness is evident as our skaters work tirelessly on and off the track. We’re an extraordinary group of individuals dedicated to bringing you the best in fast-paced, hard-hitting flat track roller derby action. We are parents, students, spouses, successful business and health professionals, community volunteers and friends.

DCRD has grown to over 20 active skaters and we are backed by an incredible non-rolling support crew of volunteers who are second to none. DCRD currently has one WFTDA-ranked team, the DCRD Destroyers.

We don’t just skate – we dominate!

What Is Roller Derby?

Demolition City plays flat-track roller derby, and we follow the rules and guidelines for skater safety developed by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. In flat-track derby, each team fields one point-scoring skater (the Jammer) whose goal is to pass as many opposing skaters (the Blockers) as they can, in 2 minutes or less. Meanwhile, Blockers work to block the opposing Jammer, as well as to clear a path for their own Jammer. For a visual guide and clear explanation, see the video below!

Common Roller Derby Myths

  • Although roller derby is a full contact sport, contact can only be made with certain parts of the body (typically shoulders and hips). Punching, elbowing, kicking, etc. is not allowed in roller derby.

  • Demolition City does not play on a banked track. While there are some banked track teams still in existence, most roller derby today is played on a flat track.

  • Roller derby is played by all genders. There are women's teams, men’s teams, and open-gender teams around the world. Demolition City currently welcomes members of all genders, although our travel team currently follows WFTDA Gender Statement.
